Create an adorable dollhouse for your little one and all of her little friends with this tutorial!
My girls love playing with anything cute and little. I got to thinking that all of their cute little friends needed a home of their own.
While searching Pinterest for inspiration, I came across this adorable little dollhouse and the free plans. Perfect!
The house is about 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Perfect for all of those little dolls and critters.
I made a few minor changes to the materials used and kept things simple by not cutting out the doors or windows.
If you follow the link above, you will find instructions to build this house.
DIY Dollhouse Tutorial
- (1) 1/4 in x 2ft x 4ft Plywood Project Panel ($12.42 @ Home Depot)
- (2) 1in x 8in x 8ft Pine Boards ($13.12 each @ Home Depot)
- box of 1 1/4 inch brad nails
- wood glue
- sand paper
- Miter Saw
- Nail Gun & Air Compressor
Since I used a 1×8 board instead of a 1×10 board like it says in the instructions, I did not have to use a table saw to cut off 1.5 inches to get the right width. My house is 7.5 inches deep instead of 8 inches, which is totally fine with me.
I followed the remaining instructions to assemble the dollhouse using wood glue and my nail gun. I would recommend lightly sanding all of the pieces before you put it together.
Once the house was assembled, I painted it using Rust-Oleum Universal Spray Paint in Robin’s Egg, and sealed it with Rust-Oleum Satin Clear Enamel. This dollhouse is going to get a lot of use, so it needs a durable finish.
The “wallpaper” on the back wall is scrapbook paper attached with double sided tape. It is removable just in case we have little “accidents” and it needs to be replaced.
There are a lot more finishing touches to add like wall art and rugs, but those will be fun to add later.
I purchased the wooden furniture on Amazon, but I didn’t realize it was coming all the way from China until after I ordered it, and it took forever to arrive.
Here are some furniture options that won’t give you the same headache!
