Make choosing snacks a breeze with these Snack Cards for Preschoolers!
My preschooler (and now toddler too, oh joy) and I go through this same routine literally every 15 minutes..all…day…long!
Preschooler: Mom, I’m hungry. I want something to eat.
Me: Okay, what would you like?
Preschooler: Come with me! (Runs to the kitchen and opens the fridge.)
Me: Do you want blueberries, yogurt, olives? (I rattle off all of her snack options – I’ve tried giving her only two options, but that doesn’t work either.)
Preschooler: Nope (Closes the fridge and opens the pantry.)
Me: Do you want pretzels, a fruit strip, applesauce?
Preschooler: Nope. (Goes back to the fridge.)
She’ll go back and forth between the fridge and pantry until she finally decides. (It usually ends up being one of my first suggestions.)
I decided enough was enough and made cards with pictures of all of her favorite snacks. Of course we don’t have all of these options on hand all the time. I just made a card for all of the possibilities. Only a few will be on the fridge at a time.
She will choose a card and then bring it to me and I will help her get the snack. I am hoping this will speed up the decision making process so we both don’t have to stand in front of an open fridge for 10 minutes…EVERY…SINGLE…TIME!
How to Make the Snack Cards
Here is how you can make your own snack cards!
Click on the picture below to download the Snack Cards PDF file. I included six blank cards so you can include specific snacks your child likes.
Print out onto cardstock. I usually order this cardstock from Amazon.
Cut out the cards, attach circle sticky magnets like these ones, and you are done!
Display the snack choices on your fridge where your child can reach them. After your child chooses a snack it goes away so next time they will choose something different.
Here’s to making snack time easier!
